It carries high amounts of plant amino acids, in particular glycinbetaine, a molecule with odour-protective activity that the plant naturally accumulates under environmental stress conditions such as high and low temperatures, drought and high salinity. Glycine betaine preserves cellular functions by binding cell membranes and enzymes, maintaining their ability to perform metabolic functions. It also maintains cellular permeability by preventing excessive water loss and cell collapse. In addition to nitrogen production in plants, it increases resistance to environmental stress and increases the plant’s photosynthetic activity.
